Re-narration

The Karnataka and mumbai HC have held that non payment of minimum wages is violative of the fundamental Right . This is mainly to avoid sweated labour.

This act covers the following

A “minimum statutory wage” prescribes the minimum wages to be given to workers based on different criteria such as Education etc. it may be higher than the bare subsistence wage. They should also provide medical requirements and amenities.
The Supreme Court has held that statutory wage under the Act is for both the worker and the family.

The act does not apply to all the worker categories but only to the workers working in employment mentioned in a list attached to the Act It is up to the govt to to add different employment to the list.
